The calculators estimate volume, loose purchase volume, weight, packages, truckloads, and user-entered cost. General material pages handle ordinary area-and-depth takeoffs. Project pages use distinct geometry where the work demands it—for example, subtracting a pipe from a French-drain trench, separating driveway courses, or keeping paver base, bedding, units, and joint sand as different purchases.

The calculation method

Each result begins with the selected shape and entered dimensions. The tool converts those measurements to one internal unit system, calculates installed volume, applies any explicit compaction or placement factor, converts volume to weight with the selected loose bulk density, adds the chosen extra allowance, and then rounds to the package or supplier increment entered by the user. Intermediate values stay visible so the final order can be reproduced instead of accepted as a black box.

Presets, density, and sources

Presets are planning starting points, not claims about every quarry or bagged product. Aggregate grading, moisture, fines, handling, and measurement practice change bulk density and yield. A project specification, current supplier data sheet, weigh ticket, or measured local value should take priority over a site preset. Official standards and government publications are linked to explain units, test concepts, and design boundaries; a citation does not turn a representative density into certified product data.

How the tools are checked

The shared calculation engine is tested against conversion, geometry, rounding, validation, and project-specific cases.
